Pick up my new sci-fi novel Herokiller, and read my first series, The Earthborn Trilogy, which is also on audiobook. More to come, and again, I highly recommend you watch it, no matter what else debuted this weekend.įollow me on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. We will see when Netflix chooses to announce its renewal, as it seems like a when, rather than an “if” given its current success. ![]() There are few comedies this high up other than some ultra-new-era classics like Big Mouth or Master of None, so it’s in storied company. That puts it in around the top 25-30 Netflix original series of all timev, and if it can crawl 1% higher, in the top 20. The show has a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, only off from a 100% by a single review. It may end up unseated by a high profile new debut like Ryan Murphy’s Hollywood, but I’d argue that Never Have I Ever is probably more accessible to a broader audience, and we will likely see it continue to be on the top 10 list for at least another week or so, the sign of a series that is bound to get renewed, especially given that it’s a low-cost comedy as opposed to say, Altered Carbon with the budget of a small blockbuster film. ![]() Don’t miss it.Įven heading into a new weekend full of fresh shows, Never Have I Ever has maintained its place as the #1 show or movie on the Netflix 10 list. Ramakrishnan is stunning as Devi, and I cannot wait to see more of her when this show is inevitably picked up for further exploration with future seasons by Netflix. This is a fantastic production from Kaling, probably her best to date, and her entire team of directors, writers and actors. Starring: Maitreyi Ramakrishnan,Richa Moorjani,Jaren Lewison. After a traumatic year, an Indian-American teen just wants to spruce up her social status but friends, family and feelings won’t make it easy on her. This has more of a Booksmart vibe to it, but I’d say it’s even better than that film by the end. 2020 Maturity rating: M 4 seasons Comedies. There’s really nothing cheesy here, which is something you might not be able to claim about productions like To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. The show effortlessly blends humor with some deeply moving emotional moments, and features love stories and triangles that are genuinely interesting, and not your usual teen fare. Along the way, Devi picked up a love triangle in the form of handsome swimmer Paxton Hall-Yoshida (Darren Barnet) and her arch rival Ben Gross (Jaren Lewison). It’s the perfect length, just ten, thirty minute episodes which is why it was easy to finish in a day. When it first premiered in 2020, the Mindy Kaling Netflix series (co-created by The Mindy Project’s Lang Fisher) asked an extremely important question of tweens and teens desperate for a crazy show: What if our main character was the absolute worst? And then what if we made you like her anyway? The show followed Indian American loser Devi - and her best friends Fabiola (Lee Rodriguez), a talented queer robotics geek, and Eleanor (Ramona Young), a talented straight theater geek - on their high school-long quests to have sex and ditch their loser status. ![]() And in the series finale of Never Have I Ever, the intrepid brainiac Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) is ready to end her time at Sherman Oaks High drama and virginity-free and say hello to boys and her dream college: Princeton. There comes a time in our lives when high school, like all good things and bad nightmares, must come to an end.
