These wines are fresher and steelier than those from the vineyards of their southerly neighbours. Though it’s considered part of Burgundy, Chablis (in Burgundy’s northern reaches) and its Chardonnays have established their own place in the world of fine wine. In ascending order of importance, they are Petit Chablis, Chablis, Chablis Premier Cru and Chablis Grand Cru. These soils, in combination with the cool summer and cold winters here, assure that even in what may be considered warm years, the grapes – primarily Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay – will develop the high levels of acidity required for the production of top-level, ageable sparkling wine.Ĭhablis is divided into four regional quality tiers, which produce only Chardonnay. The majority of Champagne’s grand cru (or top tier) sites sit on Belemnita deposits, which yield wines of notable concentration and distinct minerality as well as superb quality. The soils of Champagne are distinguished by deep chalk beds established by the inland sea of the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. “Champagne” is a legal term that refers to a place and a technique, and both have been instrumental in establishing the wines made here as the global standard for excellence for sparkling wine. Just under 150 kilometres from Paris, Champagne is one of the world’s most northerly fine-wine regions. The three most famous growing areas are Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne and the Côte des Blancs. The Champagne region has 17 grand cru and 44 premier cru villages. There are so many of us who after playing for a long time (years even) begin to take it fairly seriously. The thing that first attracted me to the everglide was that it was the first mouse pad I had seen that was targeted directly at gamers. This review is aimed at the quake-au reader who is fairly picky with his equipment, lans quite regularly, invests large amounts of money in a gaming pc etc…if this is you then I think it’s likely that you’re interested in hearing about a mousepad thats meant to be the very best for gamers… If you just play single player quake, then you probably won’t care much for hearing about the fine details of a mousepad.Įverglide – The First Mouse Pad Made for Gamers If you’ve never done this then it doesn’t matter what mouse pad you have, your mouse is going to suck… It’s amazing how good a clean mouse on a good mouse pad will improve your game… I also assume you’re using one of the ps2rate utils to get maximum mouse performance. ![]() (and they have a photo) Also I assume that if you consider which mouse pad you use important, then you already own a quality mouse and clean it regularly. The question is: Is the everglide good enough to make serious gamers switch away from 3M? Before reading the rest of this review, I suggest reading Thresh’s review first… His comments are very good. There is the ‘old’ one (I’ve had mine over 2 years) and the newer one which is a bit bigger and a bit thicker also… My new one seems to slip alot more than my two year old one… so maybe I got a dud, dunno. It’s target market appears to be with professional graphic designers and such, not gaming, yet it has proven to be the standard mousepad for serious gamers. This is a high quality mouse pad aimed at providing maximum accuracy. (this is like a high school report isn’t it! :P ) Up until now most gamers have been using the 3M Precision Mousing Surface (PMS). I’d like to thank the Everglide ppl for sending me the attack pad and for being (somewhat) patient while I try and write up an objective review for quake-au. ![]() It was interrupted by the biggest game of the year being released (HalfLife), practicing for Australia’s biggest lan event (Impulse 98) and various other real life constraints. This review was meant to come a long time ago. ![]() He suggested “Heroica” as fitting the jibe Halldór implies at the venerable story form, but I’ll invent my own coinage for “hero rogue, herogue”, for fun. Halldór’s frequent translator, Magnús Magnússon, complicated this. Swedish critic Peter Hallberg explained Gerpla as derived from garpur, or warrior, and its -la suffix makes this a titular saga. Challenges await readers of Wayward Heroes, if they are unfamiliar with the saga-hoard. Roughton appends a few sparse notes about allusions, but that is all. This review provides some of the background that’s lacking within this new edition. Now, Philip Roughton, arguably the best choice to render the idiosyncratic style of Halldór into our language, tackles what his diligent 2004 biographer Halldór Guðmannson labels “his most difficult novel”. Until two decades ago, most of Halldór’s novels languished out of print in America, or as untranslated. ![]() Yet, Halldór (I follow his homeland’s convention in using given names, as his “surname” is a pen-name derived from his family’s farm “of Laxnes”) as a Communist and a longtime defender of Stalin, earned the censure of J. It helped him win the 1955 Nobel Prize for Literature. That 1933-34 novel won him a Book-of-the-Month selection in the US in its 1946 appearance in English, with the royalties and acclaim that sales of nearly half a million garnered. After the international success of his bitter Icelandic evocation of a stubborn farmer in Independent People, Halldór Laxness (1902-1988) found himself as isolated as his protagonist from sustained success. But at least you could copy out all the originals from within the Photos Library for use in Bridge. You'd probably have to do a lot of manual keywording and such. If the "even older" library was converted to Photos, then it faces the same problems. You could get your boss to splurge for Lr on your new computer, or simply get the trial version and run all the importer functions with the Aperture libraries and get most of the stuff out that way. Others might be able to tell you how to get a copy of Aperture on your new machine I'm unsure of how to do that. So the best bet is to use Aperture at work to do this.Īnother way to go is to use Aperture Exporter at work it requires Aperture however. And in Photos it's much harder to manage metadata like yours, let alone write it to files. But even if you used Lr, note that it has no importer plugin for Photos. It also doesn't have an import plugin like Lr does. Use the Locate function to re-link your offline files. NOTE: Files/directories can be offline after you import the Aperture library. Consider that Aperture Library has to be updated to Aperture 3.5.1. And so on.īridge is more of a browser compared to Aperture and Lightroom it doesn't import stuff like they do. NOTE: Importing the Aperture Library is only supported by Capture One for macOS as Aperture is the macOS-only application created by Apple. Filter say all the keywords of "1star" and then apply one star ratings to them. You could search and filter on those keywords. Second, you then copy or move the images that have had the metadata written within to a new location, and use Bridge to browse them. ![]() Keywords are pretty universal so this helps transfer organization info to other platforms, or applications like Bridge, which can read that info. But you could substitute keywords for that (use a project name for a keyword, eg, or 1star for ratings, etc. Some Aperture stuff, like folders-albums-projects, ratings, stacking, etc, doesn't get written to files. Please can anyone help me with this problem.įirst, Aperture can write metadata like keywords, captions, etc into the files themselves. Aperture (4): Apple addresses IPTC/ metadata issues. Brining it all into Adobe Bridge CC without loosing all of the organizational structure? Secondly: I need to do the same with a secondary even older library that has all been organized in Apple Photos. Aperture has another powerful metadata tool in its arsenal, and that is the ability to create custom metadata. I am on a new Mac though that does not have Aperture, only Apple Photos so is there any way that I can output the organizational structure from an Aperture file and import it into Bridge without having access to Aperture? My problem is I am needing to take all of the files, tags, metadata, ALL of the organizational tools my workplace has used to sort and organize the years of photos and I want to bring it all into Adobe Bridge, keeping the organizational structure, tags, and metadata that was created in Aperture originally. I am very new to the forum and hope someone can help me troubleshoot these two problems I am having at work.įirstly: My workplace still uses Apple Aperture to sort and organize hundreds of thousands of photographs yearly and we are finally transitioning to Adobe Bridge CC for the hopeful future. ![]() Employment Career & job-related information.Browse by Company Company-specific gigs & information.Side Hustles Make money, on your own terms.Tasks Quickstart Guide The basics of making money performing common tasks.Rideshare Quickstart Guide The basics of providing safe rides via rideshare services.Freelancing Quickstart Guide How to enter into the gig economy as a freelancer.Lodging Quickstart Guide How to get started renting your home on lodging platforms.Lifestyle Quickstart Guide An overview of lifestyle, care-related gigs.Delivery Quickstart Guide The basics of delivering food, groceries, and packages.Quickstart Guides Step-by-step guides to the most popular industries.Inspiration Resources, quotes and motivation to start your journey.Gig Economy 101 Everything you need to know about the gig economy.Grubhub was acquired by Just Eat Takeaway for $7. But, due to the downturn in tech stocks, Just Eat Takeaway has been exploring a sale of the unit. The acquisition adds a new source of funding for Grubhub to continue competing with DoorDash and Uber Eats in the low-margin market of food delivery. At the same time, Just Eat Takeaway launched a $7.1 billion bid, which Grubhub accepted in June 2020. In 2020, Uber approached Grubhub with an acquisition offer, after failing to acquire DoorDash. It has been criticised for setting up phony websites of local businesses and earning commission from routed phone calls, which may have not ended in a purchase. Grubhub has, like most food delivery apps in the US, had its fair share of controversy. It has climbed from $500 million in 2016 to $1.8 billion in 2020. From a high of 70 percent, Grubhub sits at less than 20 percent marketshare in 2020, behind DoorDash at 45 percent and Uber Eats (with Postmates) at 30 percent.Įven with this loss of marketshare, Grubhub has continued to generate more revenue every year since going public. Since 2015, Grubhub has steadily lost marketshare in the US, as Uber Eats and DoorDash claimed more users. In 2019, the company posted its first ever yearly loss, which Maloney blamed on delivery services and the competitive market. Grubhub still generates most of its revenue through non-delivery orders, however it has become a larger part of the business. But, due to stock market pressure, Grubhub decided to start providing delivery service to some restaurants. Grubhub CEO Matt Maloney called this “the dumbest business you could ever be in”, as it offered razor-thin margins even with 30 percent commission. Instead of simply aggregating takeaways, these new platforms provided delivery service for restaurant, at a higher commission. In 2013, the two companies agreed to merge, creating a powerhouse that controlled 70 percent of takeout orders.Īs the two merged, a new form of food delivery was beginning to emerge in California, led by Postmates, DoorDash and Uber Eats.
